In the year of 1973,
Our good ship went to sea.
We sailed to Mururoa,
To keep our country clean.
The French were going to drop a bomb,
And pollute the atmosphere.
So Mr Kirk, he told them,
We will send a Frigate there.
So one nice calm, but foggy day,
We sailed away from home.
We knew that for a month or so,
We'd all be on our own.
The "CANTERBURY" is our good ships name,
It's small but nice and clean.
To go to Mururoa,
For us is not a dream.
In 7 days we reached the place,
That we had headed for.
We met with the "OTAGO",
They couldn't take any more.
They waw one bomb and shyed away,
Back home to Devenport.
But "CANTERBURY" stayed behind,
More bombs had to be fought.
Not more than two days later,
They dropped another bomb.
It wasn't much to talk about,
Cause something had gone wrong.
We'll stay at Mururoa,
And scream our protest loud.
For we know that every Kiwi,
Of his Country he is Proud.
