HMNZS CANTERBURY F421
HMNZS CANTERBURY was a Leander Class Frigate, built in Scotland for the RNZN and commissioned in 1971. She was decommissioned in 2005 and sunk off the Bay of Islands in February 2007
Although a relatively old ship, several refits over her service life mean CANTERBURY has both a tactical and weapon fit-out that is right up to date. Her Phalanx Close-In Weapon fires 3000 rounds per minute.
Her refit in 1998 included changes to accommodate the Navy's new Kaman Seasprite helicopter.
CANTERBURY was decommissioned on 31 March 2005.
CANTERBURY's home port was Lyttelton.
